the delicate art of balancing motherhood and life

About March 19, 2011

I am a city-mouse-lawyer from Santa Monica, turned country-mouse-stay-at-home mom in Sonoma who is trying to balance motherhood and a new life in wine country. In a single year, I quit my job, got married, moved up north, got a puppy, built a home, and had a baby.

I am married to a man who commutes to San Francisco for work. Since it’s my blog, he prefers to keep his anonymity. We have a daughter who is 2.5 years old, an extrovert and an engaging conversationalist with a good sense of humor.  Our puppy is now a dog, who is a few months shy of 3 years old. He’s more than a dog, he’s my other child.  Just furrier.

Back in Santa Monica, when I wasn’t furiously working, I spent my weekends going for a run or hike, reading the paper while leisurely having a cup of coffee.  I’d see movies, go out with friends, do yoga and get-together with my book club.

Now, when I’m not furiously running after my Monchichi, I love cooking, watch movies on Netflix, get-together with playdate mommies, read books (parenting and fiction), and am learning Spanish. Consistent exercise has made a recent re-entry into my life, which is necessary with the lethal combination of having a baby and being surrounded by amazing cuisine in wine country.
